The first Chinese living-donor liver transplantation at AMC
Mr. Zhang Hongbo (male, 51) from Beijing, China, received a living-donor liver transplantation at AMC regained his health and left the hospital on February 7.
Mr. Zhang Hongbo was in an urgent need of a liver transplantation due to a severe blockage in his hepatic portal vein, but no hospital in China thought that the liver transplantation would be possible. At the same time, however, he met Chinese Dr. Seo Gwanghoon, who had been trained in AMC’s Department of Liver Transplantation and Hepatobiliary surgery for three months, who advised him to visit AMC, since AMC is a leader in the field of living-donor liver transplantations.
Mr. Zhang and Dr. Seo came to Korea and stayed for three days together, with Dr. Seo helping by explaining his patient’s health conditions. AMC’s liver transplantation team, equipped with the best skills and much experience in liver transplantations associated with Mr. Zhang’s disease, could successfully transplant Mr. Zhang’s wife’s liver to him. Liver transplantations have been carried out at AMC with a 100% success rate. Mr. Zhang expressed his gratitude to AMC’s medical professionals and Dr. Seo.
